HBO has released the full trailer for the upcoming second season of Crystal Moselle’s coming-of-age comedy series Betty, which is scheduled to return on next Friday on June 11. The video, which you can check out below, features the titular group of female skateboarders as they continue to navigate the pressures of adulting during the pandemic in New York City while trying to stay true to themselves.

In addition to the official Betty Season 2 trailer, HBO has also released the first episode of the second season on their YouTube channel. Episode 2.01 titled “Octopussy,” was directed by Moselle from a script written by Moshe Kasher.

In the first episode, Kirt’s (Nina Moran) (probably) on a quest. Indigo’s (Ajani Russell) grocery gig isn’t cutting it. Honeybear (Moonbear) and Ash (Katerina Tannenbaum) are all in. Camille’s (Rachelle Vinberg) got flow. Winterbowl’s a bust, and Janay’s (Dede Lovelace) not here for the new guy.

Betty is set against the backdrop of New York City. It centers around a diverse group of young women navigating their lives through the predominantly male-oriented world of skateboarding. The original film’s five leads Dede Lovelace, Ajani Russell, Moonbear, Rachel Vinberg, and Nina Moran are also starring in the series as they reprise their roles as Janay, Indigo, Honeybear, Camille, and Kirt, respectively.

In Season 2, our five protagonists are stepping firmly into womanhood and tackling all the challenges it brings. As they navigate the pressures of adulthood, their male counterparts start to step up, step in, and become true allies, forming a united front for the greater good. Set in the last chapter of 2020, the season captures the pandemic in New York City, where masks and outside activities are the norm.
